CORPUS was officially founded in 1991 by the artistic directors Marley Eltz and Vincent Michels. Before that time they did acrobatics on the streets. But the artistic need to develop and to grow was so big that soon after the foundation the first indoor theatre production saw the spotlights.

It was called "Een Ander Oog" (An Other Eye).
Corpus spend weeks in different zoo's to watch how animals walked and "talked". And then they transformed their observations into theatrical acrobatic forms. The audience couldn't believe their eyes when they saw a zebra giving birth to its baby zebra ... and it were only two acrobats moving and crawling! "Een Ander Oog" was mainly played for schoolkids. More than 150 performances were given.

In 1994 "Onderaardsen" (Subterranean) was made.
This was the break through for Corpus. For the first time Corpus played outside the Netherlands and in the big theatres. "Onderaardsen" was set in the future, were the people live in a subway. A subway without sunlight, where all the creatures adapted their movements to their strange dark envirement. But when a woman from the world above appears, the fight begins. A fight for light, live and .... a woman.
